Committee Minutes
Regular Meeting
September 12th, 2006

7:00 PM

Attending Members:  Joseph Colangelo, Mike Harnad, Mike Pinatti, Greg Suchy, and Greg Blessing.  John Sahi was not in attendance.  John Wojtyna was in attendance for discussion on the upcoming basketball season.
Meeting called to order at 7:12 PM.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were reviewed.  Mike Harnad made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Greg Suchy.  All members were unanimous in approval.

GENERAL DISCUSSION:
John Wojtyna was present to discuss the “men’s over 30 league” with the following agreed upon items;
1.      Advertise in the Reminder for a two-week window of Willington residents only to register, with a maximum of twenty participants.
2.      Following the two-week registration period, registration is open to anyone, with a maximum of twenty participants on a first come, first serve basis.
3.      All registrations will come through the Recreation office.
4.      John Wojtyna will monitor players according to proper registration.  This list will be provided by John Sahi and updated weekly on Fridays in an email form.
5.      Start date for the program will be early October.
6.      Residents will pay $35.00 to play; non-residents will pay $45.00 to play.

DIRECTORS REPORT:
John Sahi was not present to report, but sent a note in reference to a gazebo being donated to the Recreation Department.  A WRC member has inspected the gazebo and feels it is not worth bringing to the RRAC.  All members were unanimous in this decision.

OLD BUSINESS:
A.      The items for install at the RRAC on the next contract should start at item #3 of the list created at a previous meeting.  This project is referred to as the “baseball field project”.  An addition to the list would be extending the 20’ rear fence another 100’ towards the highway, and complete with a 6’ fence to the concrete barrier at the power poles.  Little League will be approached to help with financing of some of the “baseball field project”.
B.      It is suggested that the original plan for the RRAC be resubmitted to PZC with the areas we are not completing circled and noted as “future installations”.  John Sahi will have a meeting with Karl Ascimovik to discuss this.

NEW BUSINESS:
The upcoming basketball season was discussed including the following suggestions:
1.      Work with Mansfield to create some travel games for the fifth to eight grade teams.  Also work with their Recreation Department on scheduling, and a rulebook.
2.      The WRC should approach Principal Harding about using the gym during school winter break.
3.      New teams would breakout in grades as follows; 1&2 as instructional, 3&4 as in town play only, 5-8 as in town and travel teams.
4.      A certification of coaches and referees should be implemented for play this year, and mandatory for all following seasons.  John Sahi will have a “startup” meeting similar to the one he did during his first year in his present position.  This meeting will be for handing out equipment, paperwork, and reviewing a “code” of conduct per team.  It will also be a possible time for certification of coaches.
5.      It is suggested that he 3&4 grade teams practice the first half of their allotted game time, and play a game for the final half with no referees.
6.      Greg Suchy will provide a two-week basketball clinic and tryouts previous to the season start.
7.      The cost of the program will not change from last year, and flyers will be sent to the school system immediately.

VI.          ADJOURNMENT:
Mike Harnad motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Joseph Colangelo.  The meeting adjourned at 8:44PM.  The next meeting is scheduled for October 24th, 2006 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.

Respectfully submitted 9/14/06

Joseph C. Colangelo
